The iMac was the first in Apple??™s line of consumer Macs,
which soon expanded to include the eMac and the iBook. The popularity of the consumer Macs
was undeniable then, and is even greater today. There was once a time when Apple was associated
mainly with creative professionals, such as graphic artists, musicians, and the Hollywood crowd,
but that time has passed. While Apple remains the computing company of choice in those circles,
they have extended their reach into all expanses of computing, from the home to the laboratory.
Macs for Consumers
Macs come in two varieties: consumer and professional. Apple saw the need to divide its computer
offerings in order to accommodate not only the artists and movie directors of the world, but also the
average person who wanted a computer that just worked correctly right out of the box.

and Professional Mac?
Some people may be put off by the term ???consumer Mac,??? thinking that it somehow denotes
an inferior machine, but that is certainly not the case for the audience it is intended for.
