"How to Do Everything: Mac"

The processor is the brain of your Mac, where all the information your
Mac receives or transmits goes to or comes from. Processors handle most of the millions of
calculations your Mac has to perform.
Why Did Apple Choose Intel?
The PowerPC processors had served Apple well for a very long time, so why did Apple drop
them for Intel? The short and sweet of it is that the PowerPC was getting to the point in its
development where it couldn??™t meet the performance commitments made by IBM. Apple had
to be certain of its long-term ability to meet the high performance demands of its customers,
and thus they were forced to seek other options. Intel was able to meet those demands, and then
some, and the rest is computing history.
How Does an Intel Processor Benefit You?
Let me count the ways! The announcement by Apple that they were including Intel processors
in the Mac sent shockwaves through the computing industry and media. The biggest question
was whether Apple would make Mac OS X, the operating system your Mac uses, available for
installation on third-party PCs, and the resounding answer was ???No!??? However, we did find
out that it was possible to install Windows on your Mac.
