As a matter of fact, Apple has even
provided a way to facilitate this, called Boot Camp, which Chapter 18 explores. Now, why would
you want Windows on your Mac? You bought a Mac to get away from Windows! That??™s also
something I??™ll discuss in Chapter 18.
Other benefits of having an Intel processor are that more developers have become interested
in the Mac, because it is much easier for them to bring their applications to the Mac platform
than ever before. This can only be a good thing. Also, alternative operating systems such as
Linux can be installed on your Mac, although Apple doesn??™t officially support this (meaning that
they supply Boot Camp for installing Windows but offers no such utility for installing Linux or
other operating systems as of this writing).
Explore Your Mac
When you buy a new car, it??™s always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the location of its
controls so that you can operate the car safely and confidently. A similar concept applies to your
new Mac. In order to use your Mac efficiently and with much less frustration, you should know
where to insert CDs, where to connect printers and cameras, and even where to plug in the power
cord (which is a pretty important thing to do, by the way).
