"How to Do Everything: Mac"

The screen appears
as though it??™s being turned off, but instead of turning completely off it goes dark for a few
seconds before beginning the boot process again.
When you are asked whether you really want to restart or not, be sure to click the
Cancel button if you do not want the Mac to restart. If you don??™t make a choice, the Mac
automatically restarts after two minutes. Some applications do not allow the system to
restart until you specify what it should do with the documents you??™re working on, but
others allow the system to quit them without hesitation, losing any information you
haven??™t saved.
Shut Down Your Mac
To shut down, or turn off, your Mac, choose Apple | Shut Down. You are asked if you are sure
you want to shut down, just like when you restart. As before, go ahead and click the Shut Down
button. When the screen goes completely black, you have shut down successfully.
CHAPTER 1: Welcome to the World of Mac! 19
Continuing with the similarities between the restart and shutdown functions, when
asked whether or not you truly want to shut down, be sure to click the Cancel
button if you??™re not ready to turn the system off.
