"How to Do Everything: Mac"

If you don??™t make a choice, the Mac
automatically shuts down after two minutes and you lose whatever work you haven??™t
saved. Some applications do not allow the system to shut them down until you specify
what to do with the documents currently being worked on, but others allow the system
to quit them without so much as an ???hasta la vista.???
Put Your Mac to Sleep
While this procedure sounds like you may need to take your Mac to the veterinarian, it??™s really
not all that dramatic. As a matter of fact it??™s actually a good thing.
To put your Mac in sleep mode, choose Apple | Sleep (it??™s getting
pretty easy to decode these Apple menus, isn??™t it?). The screen on your
Mac will go dark, but it will not shut down. Sleep mode saves energy
and allows the Mac to come back up to a working state much faster
than does a cold boot (turning the Mac back on after it??™s been shut
down). When your Mac is in sleep mode, it is still on but using a very
minimal amount of power. Another plus to sleep mode is that all your
applications and documents are still open and running, exactly the way
you left them before your Mac took a siesta.
