Menus
Menus, which are essentially lists, simply give you multiple options in one location (see Figure 2-2).
Menus are great ways for application programmers to save space on your screen, keeping it clean
from clutter by arranging similar options in a single place. For example, when you click the Apple

menu at the top-left corner of your screen, you are presented with many options, all originating from
the same locale. When you choose one of the options, the menu disappears.
Windows
Windows, like the one shown in Figure 2-3, allow you to see what files, folders, applications,
utilities, and other whatnots are inside your Mac. There are lots of options when it comes to

viewing windows, which I will cover in detail in Chapter 3. You can move windows to any
position on the screen and resize them, making them as large or as small as you prefer, so you
can arrange and resize multiple windows to see all of their contents simultaneously.
