Discover and Use Mac OS X??™s Files and Folders
Now that you are more familiar with how to move about your Mac, it??™s time to find out what all
these files and folders are that populate your newfound friend.
Open a Finder window and click the icon for your hard drive in the upper-left corner. In this
section, we are primarily concerned with the folders you see in the results window. Let??™s take
them one at a time:
?– Applications The Applications folder is where your Mac stores all of its applications
and utilities. This is typically the folder you use to install other applications you may
pick up along the path of your Mac journey. There is another folder that resides in the
Applications folder, called Utilities, that contains utility applications. These applications
are tools that you will only have to use once in a blue moon to add devices to your Mac,
run network diagnostics, and the like.
