There are several Library folders in Mac OS X. The Library folder at the root of the hard
disk (/Library) is the one just discussed. There is also a Library folder inside the System
folder, and each individual user account on the Mac has its own Library folder. If you
have an item??”a screensaver, for instance??”that only you are to have access to, don??™t
install that screensaver in the system-wide Library folder (/Library/Screen Savers); place
it in your individual Library folder (Your User Account Name/Library/Screen Savers).
I??™ll discuss user account permissions in greater depth in Chapter 4.
?– System Never, never, never touch this folder! Don??™t even click it to see what??™s inside
or your hard plastic mouse will turn into a real live wiggly one with red beady eyes and a
skinny tail, right there in your hand! Okay, maybe that??™s a slight exaggeration, but if you
like your Mac to actually remain stable and useable, you will heed my advice to leave
this folder be. The System folder is Apple??™s own playground, and unless you are a superduper
mega-geek, it??™s best to not venture here.
