When TextEdit opens, you are
automatically presented with a blank page. Simply type hello, world and choose File | Save (or
press z-S). The Save dialog box opens, shown in Figure 3-6; this is where you give your file a
title (I called mine ???my first file???) and tell your Mac which folder to save it in.
By default, your Mac saves the new file in the Documents folder of your user account??™s home
folder, which is located at Hard Drive | Users | Your User Account | Documents. Your home folder
is where your personal information is stored on your Mac, such as application preferences, iPhoto
and iTunes libraries, Internet downloads, and so on. Each user account has a unique home folder.
