"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Instead of reopening a file or folder in the application in which you created it and saving
a copy with a new name, you can simply rename the item. To change the name of an item, click
its name to select it, pause for just a second, and then click the item??™s name again and the name
will be highlighted in light blue. Simply type in the new name of your file or folder and then
press RETURN or click elsewhere on the screen to apply the name. If you just want to change a
portion of the item??™s name, click anywhere in the text and you will see a flashing cursor in the
place you clicked. You can then click-and-drag over the portion of the text you want to change,
to highlight it, and type new text, or you can move to the place in the text you need to change by
pressing the appropriate ARROW key on your keyboard and then edit the name as you would in a
word processor. Practice this technique on the new file and folder you recently created.
Delete Files and Folders
If you??™re a pack rat and love to keep everything you??™ve ever acquired, you would be wise to not
carry this over into your computing habits.
