"How to Do Everything: Mac"

If you are looking for files containing the words ???hello,
world,??? type those words in the text field. Spotlight will find every single file on your system
that includes ???hello, world,??? whether that file is a text file, a saved iChat session, an email, a
movie file, picture, song, or whatever. Of course, a Spotlight search could potentially render
tons of hits, so the Mac divides the results into categories and Top Hit (the file or files your Mac
considers most likely to be what you are searching for).
CHAPTER 3: Cruisin??™: Navigating Your Mac 49
Once you??™ve found the file you are looking for, you can either double-click it in the Spotlight
list to open it or hold your mouse over the entry and your Mac will show you where the file is
located.
Search Using Find
The Find feature is just as fast as Spotlight, but is much more useful for searching specific
locations for files. If you don??™t know the name of a file or where you may have saved it, but can
remember some of the text contained in the file, Spotlight may be your best option. However, if
you do know what folder or hard drive contains the file, Find is better than Spotlight since you
can narrow your search to just that location.
