"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Using Find avoids the potential for Mac OS X to
return a huge list of search results, the vast majority of which may be completely irrelevant.
50 How to Do Everything: Mac
To search for files using Find, you must be in the Finder, so click the Finder icon in the
Dock. Now choose File | Find, or just press z-F. At first glance the Find window looks like a
standard Finder window, but a closer inspection reveals the search functions (see Figure 3-9).
Choose the location in which you wish to search for the file in the search locations section of the
window, and then modify the search criteria, such as what date the file was created or what kind
of file it is (text, music, images, etc.). You may add or remove search criteria by clicking the + or
??“ signs next to them. Type the information you are searching for in the text field located in the
upper-right corner of the window (note the magnifying glass icon), and the results will display
beneath the search criteria.
I Wanna Dock!
Up to this point you??™ve had minimal experience with the Dock, which is one of the more striking
and versatile user interface elements of Mac OS X.
