"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Access Files and Folders from the Dock
Notice the divider line between the blue Documents folder and the icon to its immediate left
(System Preferences by default), looking toward the right side of the Dock in Figure 3-10; this
line separates the Dock into two sections. The left section is where all your application icons are
kept, and the right side is where you can place icons of files and folders you access often. For
example, open a Finder window, open the Users folder, and drag the icon for your home folder
CHAPTER 3: Cruisin??™: Navigating Your Mac 53
to the right side of the Dock and drop it next to your Trash icon. However, be careful not to drop
it in the Trash! Now you have quick and easy access to your home folder. These folder icons are
called stacks. Click the home icon, or stack, that??™s now in the Dock and a menu similar to this
one pops up.
You can now select anything that is in your home folder from this menu. Very convenient! If
you do the same with your Applications folder, any of your applications can be launched easily
enough from the Dock without having to put an icon for each one in the Dock.
