"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Apple has included the Downloads stack in the Dock by default, which is an alias for the
Downloads folder in your home directory. Any time you download something from the Internet or
save an attachment from your email application, the item is automatically stored in the Downloads
folder. The Downloads stack in the Dock will bounce once to notify you that download of the
item is complete. Click the Downloads stack to access items in your Downloads folder. Using the
Downloads stack will help keep your desktop nice and clean.
54 How to Do Everything: Mac
Did you notice the way the list of subfolders ???fan out???? When you have lots of folders (too
many to comfortably fit into the ???fan???), they don??™t fan out, but rather are arranged in a grid.
You can choose to open a stack with either a fan or a grid configuration by clicking-andholding
the mouse button down on the stack until the configuration menu pops up. Put your
mouse pointer over the View As menu and choose Fan or Grid from the list.
Set Preferences for the Dock
The Dock allows you to set preferences that enable you to use or modify the Dock to your liking.
