"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Does the Dock tend to get in your way? Hide it! Move it! Shrink it! Disable it! No, no, you can??™t
disable it (why would you want to?), but the other three options are easy to do with the Dock??™s
preferences. To open the Dock preferences pane, shown in Figure 3-11, choose Apple | Dock |
Dock Preferences.
Let??™s go over the options in the Dock preferences pane:
?–  Size Use the slider to make the Dock take up the full length of your monitor or to make
it really, really small.
?–  Magnification If you choose to make your Dock small, you may not be able to see the
icons very well. Turning Magnification on (by checking the box next to it) causes the
icons to enlarge as you move your mouse over them. You can select how large the icons
magnify by adjusting the Magnification slider.
CHAPTER 3: Cruisin??™: Navigating Your Mac 55
?–  Position on Screen The Dock doesn??™t have to stay at the bottom of the screen; you can
choose to move the Dock to the right or left side of the screen by clicking the appropriate
radio button.
?–  Minimize Using I discussed the Genie Effect that you see when minimizing windows
earlier in the ???Discover the Finder??? section of this chapter.
