"How to Do Everything: Mac"

With
widgets, you can perform common tasks, get information in a flash, and even play games simply
by pressing the F12 key. There are widgets available for just about any task you can imagine.
The default set of widgets that comes installed with Mac OS X will help you check your local
weather, see how your stocks are performing, convert measurements, browse the Yellow Pages,
consult a dictionary, see the status of a flight, and even translate common languages.
Dashboard Basics
If you haven??™t done so already, push the F12 key and let??™s dive in. Double-clicking the Dashboard
icon in the Applications folder will also open the Dashboard. The upside to using the F12 key is
that if you keep pressing it over and over, you??™ll get that Wayne??™s World zoom-cam effect as the
Dashboard opens and closes repeatedly. ???Party time!??? ???Excellent!??? When you open the Dashboard,
you are promptly greeted by your default set of open, or running, widgets (see Figure 3-18).
To see other widgets you have installed, click the circle containing the + symbol that??™s in the
lower-left corner of the screen, and the widget bar opens, as you can see in Figure 3-19.
