be anything you want. The options are only restricted by the format of the file you want to use
for your desktop picture, which will typically be JPEG, PICT, or TIFF.
To change the desktop picture, choose Apple | System Preferences, click the Desktop &
Screen Saver icon, and then click the Desktop tab. Alternatively, if you??™re one of those folks who
likes doing things the easy way, simply right-click or CTRL-click the desktop and choose Change
Desktop Background from the menu. Apple has stocked Mac OS X with pictures and patterns
you can choose from, as you can see in Figure 4-1. You can even use your own pictures by
clicking the + button in the lower-left corner and browsing your Mac for the folder that contains
the picture you want, or by scrolling down the folder list and selecting a picture from your iPhoto
library (learn all about iPhoto in Chapter 11).

If you wish, your Mac can actually change the desktop picture for you automatically.
