Use the Appearance Preferences Pane
To make still more changes to the way Mac OS X looks and acts, open System Preferences and
click the Appearance icon. The Appearance preferences pane allows you to change many more

CHAPTER 4: Stylin??™ and Profilin??™! Customizing Your Mac 77
One option whose function isn??™t self-explanatory is ???Number of Recent Items.??? To understand
what this option refers to, click the Apple menu and hold your mouse over Recent Items to see
the last several applications, documents, and servers you have frequented. You can change the
number of items displayed for each of these categories by changing its corresponding setting in
the Number of Recent Items pop-up menu.
Another vague option is ???Font smoothing style.
