80 How to Do Everything: Mac
Change Monitor Preferences
Changing monitor settings can make a huge difference in how you work with your Mac. Looking
at the screen is the main way you interact with a computer, so if the resolution or color isn??™t
optimized, it can make using your Mac an uncomfortable experience.
Open System Preferences and click the Displays icon in the Hardware section, and then click
the Display tab; set the resolution, brightness, and number of colors to your liking. The resolution
you choose determines how large or small the items on your screen appear. A rule of thumb for
selecting a resolution is to understand that the lower the number the larger the icons are going to
be. For example, icons at 800 ?— 600 are much larger than those at 1280 ?— 800.
CHAPTER 4: Stylin??™ and Profilin??™! Customizing Your Mac 81
Click the Color tab to change the way colors are represented on your screen. Select one of
the available display profiles from the list on the left and use the one that makes your eyes??™ rods
and cones the happiest. Bear in mind that for most users the default color profile works just fine;
changing profiles is mainly a tool used by graphics professionals.
