"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Use Parental Controls
Parental Controls helps you protect the little ones, and sometimes the big ones, in your life from
seeing or participating in things they ought not to. With Parental Controls, you can police what
users of standard accounts can do on the Internet when using the Mac, giving you peace of mind
and security usually only gained by purchasing third-party Internet filter software. For those
of you who have children, Parental Controls is such an important part of your Mac life that it
warrants its own section, ???Parental Controls Need-to-Knows,??? a bit later in this chapter.
Configure Login Items
The Login Items tab of the Accounts preferences pane can only be accessed by the account that
is currently logged in. The Login Items tab lists applications that open, sometimes behind the
scenes, when you first log in to your account.
You may not even realize that some of these applications are running. For instance, if you have
an appointment in iCal and set iCal to remind you of that appointment, the iCalAlarmScheduler is
an application you will see on the Login Items tab.
