"How to Do Everything: Mac"

The communication possibilities are mind-boggling! These are just a few examples of what
broadband Internet access has meant to the growth of the Internet, and is but a glimpse of what it
can accomplish in the future.
You??™re probably saying, ???Okay, okay, you??™ve sold me on the speed, but what about the cost????
Well, it may come as a surprise to some that the cost of some broadband connections is about
the same as many dial-up services. The difference between crawling and flying on the Internet
may be only a few dollars, if that. The benefits gained by broadband far outweigh the slight cost
differences between it and dial-up.
DSL or Cable?
Now the question remains, what type of broadband connection to use? As DSL and coaxial
cable (or simply ???cable,??? as I??™ll refer to it from here on) are the two most prevalent services for
consumers, these are the two I will compare.
A big plus for DSL is that it works with your existing phone lines, so there is no need for
someone to come in and wire your home for Internet access. Also, even though it uses your
phone line to connect to the Internet, you can still continue to use your phone for calls without
having to suspend Internet access.
