Here??™s how:
1. Open System Preferences and click the Network icon to open the Network preferences
pane, and then click the ???Assist me??? button at the bottom.
2. Click the Assistant button when prompted with this dialog box:
The Network Setup Assistant window opens.
3. Read the introduction, give your location a descriptive name, and then click Continue.
100 How to Do Everything: Mac
4. Specify the method you intend to use to connect to the Internet, read the note below the
options, and then click Continue.
Heed the message at the bottom of the How Do You Connect to the Internet? page.
Otherwise, the Network Setup Assistant won??™t be any help to you at all. Make sure you
have (or get) all the pertinent connection information from your ISP before continuing.
5. The Network Setup Assistant now wants to know if you are ready to connect. Some ISPs
and networks allow computers to connect to them automatically, and that??™s just what the
Network Setup Assistant will attempt to do when you click Continue.
CHAPTER 5: Getting Started on the Internet 101
If the Network Setup Assistant was able to configure everything without need of any further
input from you, congratulations and happy Internet surfing! Otherwise, the next page will tell
you that you can??™t connect automatically and that you need to enter your ISPs information before
you can connect to the Internet.
