"How to Do Everything: Mac"

The United States
Postal Service estimates that it processes and delivers 213 billion pieces of mail a year. That is an
incredible number, and you need to give your postal carrier a hug the next time you see him or
her. Now, how many emails were sent in 2006? Only 171 billion??”per day!
Mac OS X comes with its own email application, called, appropriately enough, Mail. As is
standard practice for Apple, Mail is a very intuitive and easy-to-use application that takes no
time to get used to. We??™ll get to particulars later, in Chapter 17, but for now let??™s explore the very
basics of Mail.
To get started, open the Mail application by clicking its icon in the Dock, or by opening a
new Finder window, opening the Applications folder, and double-clicking the Mail icon.
The ISP you have chosen will provide most of the information that Mail requires to
create a new email account. Make sure you have this information available before you
get started or you may not be able to properly set up your account, and you won??™t be
able to send or receive email.
