108 How to Do Everything: Mac
Delete an Email Message
Deleting an email message has it pros and cons. On the pro side, deleting emails frees up space
on your computer, gets rid of old or spam emails, and cleans up the clutter that can quickly jam
your Inbox. The only real con to deleting emails is either accidentally deleting an email you
wanted to keep or intentionally deleting an email you later realize you needed. Fortunately, Mail
has a Trash mailbox that contains the emails you have deleted, so they aren??™t really completely
gone until they are removed from there (more on this in Chapter 17).
To delete an email, click the email to highlight it, and choose Edit | Delete. You can also
right-click or CTRL-click the email and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.
Again, there is much more information on Mail in Chapter 17.
Surfin??™ Safari!
Email and instant messaging are great communications tools, but surfing the Web is essentially
the holy grail of Internet functions. With the combination of Mac OS X, a great web browser,
and an Internet connection, you can get your news, shop for anything you can possibly imagine,
download movies and music, attend online classes at a major university, keep track of the day??™s
sports scores, play chess with someone on an entirely different continent, accomplish an endless
array of chores and tasks, and engage in a wide variety of activities and amusements.
