124 How to Do Everything: Mac
?–  Disk Utility Disk Utility is a toolbox for your Mac??™s internal and external drives. You
use it to repair damaged files on your disks, to erase disks, to burn files to CDs or DVDs,
and to create disk images. Disk Utility is covered in depth in Chapter 23.
?–  Grab Grab is used to take captures, or screenshots, of anything displayed on your
screen. You can take a screenshot of the entire desktop or a single window, take a timed
shot of the screen, or draw a box around a particular area on the screen you want to
capture. Many of the figures and illustrations throughout this book were taken with Grab.
?–  Grapher Create two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphs with this utility.
Grapher has the seriously math-oriented Mac user in mind.
?–  Java The Java folder contains three utilities for getting the most of Java-based
applications. Java is a cross-platform programming language, meaning that any computer
running the Java Runtime Environment can use any program written in Java. Java is
available as a download for all computer platforms, but Mac OS X incorporates Java as a
native, or built-in, part of the operating system.
