If you have any
documents open at the time, you may be prompted to save them before the application
completely shuts itself down. You can also quit an application by clicking its icon in the Dock,
continue holding down the mouse button until a menu pops up, and then select Quit.
It??™s not necessary that you quit applications every time you finish using them, but it does
keep down the clutter in your Dock. Also, some applications, such as Photoshop, may
take up a large portion of your Mac??™s memory when they are running; if you don??™t have
much memory on your Mac to begin with, quit the application to free up that memory.
However, keeping a frequently used application open prevents waiting through its entire
startup process every time you need to use it, which, for some applications, may take
quite a while.
Identify Basic Application Commands
On the following page is a handy list of the most common basic commands used in applications.
Not all applications support each of these commands, or they may not use the same keyboard
shortcuts.
