"How to Do Everything: Mac"

The initial purchase cost of a laser printer, particularly a color model, is a good bit
higher than that of an inkjet printer, but the cost of consumables (toner, drums, and so forth) will
be less over the life of the device.
The bottom line is that if you absolutely need to print photographs that look like you just got
them developed at a photo developer, stick with inkjet printer, but if you need to print manuals
and business documents, a laser printer is your best bet. And don??™t forget: you can have more
than one printer connected to your Mac at once, so you could have the best of both worlds by
using a laser printer and an inkjet printer together.
If you need a printer to be used by multiple Macs, the best thing you can do is buy a
printer with a network connection (a.k.a. Ethernet or RJ-45).
The Type of Cables You Need
The kind of cable you use to connect your printer depends first on what kind of cable the printer
supports, and second on whether you are connecting the printer to a network or directly to your
Mac. Most modern printers, inkjet and laser, support USB connections, but they typically don??™t
ship with a USB cable, so you need to purchase one with your printer.
