If you experience problems with your printer, or any other device, when connected to a USB
hub, try connecting the printer directly to your Mac and see if the problem goes away. If it does
go away when directly connected, the problem is the USB hub, not the printer or your Mac.

Connect Your Printer via USB
To connect your printer with USB, you need to have your USB cable handy, and you need to
decide which USB port on your Mac to connect your printer to. Which port to use is a decision
you will have to make on your own. Once you??™ve decided on a port, go ahead and connect the
printer to your Mac.
To install the printer on your Mac??”that is, to make it available to all of your applications and
users for their printing needs??”click the + button in the lower left of the Print & Fax preferences
pane (see Figure 8-1); this action opens the printer browser window, shown in Figure 8-2.
Click the Default tab in the upper-left corner, and you should see the name of your printer in
the Printer Name column and USB in the Kind column.
