"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Apple is actually trying
to wean Mac users from AppleTalk, as evidenced by AppleTalk being disabled by default
in Mac OS X. However, if you own an older-model printer that doesn??™t support Bonjour,
AppleTalk is a great choice and well worth enabling. To enable AppleTalk, see Chapter 16.
?–  TCP/IP Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the standard communications
protocol of the Internet. When a device is connected to your router, whether wired or
wireless, the router automatically assigns an IP address to it. TCP/IP uses these addresses
to route network traffic to and from devices. When you connect your printer to a router,
it should be assigned an IP address. Consult your printer??™s documentation on how to
find out what its IP address is. You need the IP address if you??™re using TCP/IP for your
installation method.
