Create a Smart Playlist
A Smart Playlist watches your Library for tracks that meet the criteria you specify for it. When a
track is added to the Library that matches that criteria, a copy of the track is added to the Smart
Playlist. There are several predefined Smart Playlists included with iTunes, such as Recently
CHAPTER 12: Well, Turn it Up, Man! Get In Tune with iTunes 267
Added and Top 25 Most Played. The Recently Added Smart Playlist is on the lookout for tracks
that have been added to your Library during a specified period of time; its default is set to the
last two weeks. The Top 25 Most Played Smart Playlist checks to see which of your tracks have
been played the most, and then ranks them based on the number of times they have been played.
To see these criteria, right-click or CTRL-click Recently Added or Top 25 Most Played in the
Playlists source pane and choose Edit Smart Playlist from the options. Recently Added should
look like this:

To create a Smart playlist of your own, choose File | New Smart Playlist, and then
manipulate the criteria to suit you.
