"How to Do Everything: Mac"

?–  Log out after ???x??™ minutes of inactivity Check this box to cause your account to
automatically log out after the amount of time specified. This is particularly useful to
prevent other users from staying logged on when they have not used the computer in
a while.
CHAPTER 14: Making Sense of the System Preferences 299
?–  Use secure virtual memory Check this box to secure information written to virtual
memory. Sometimes your Mac uses space on your hard drive as RAM (random access
memory); this technique is known as virtual memory. By default, any information
written to virtual memory is unprotected, but checking this box secures that information
by encrypting it.
?–  Disable remote control infrared receiver Check this box to turn off your Mac??™s builtin
infrared port, if it has one, preventing any remote control from working with your
Mac. This option doesn??™t show up if your Mac doesn??™t have an infrared port.
FileVault
Turning on FileVault will encrypt all contents of your home folder. Encryption keeps other users
from seeing your data.
