304 How to Do Everything: Mac
Displays
You use this pane to set your monitor and display preferences. Both the Display and Color
tabs of this preferences pane were covered in detail in Chapter 4, in the ???Change Monitor
Preferences??? section.
Energy Saver
Your Mac will go into sleep mode after a certain period of time in order to save energy. This is
especially useful when using a laptop without a power adapter. Laptop batteries can run out of
juice pretty quickly, so if you??™re not using the laptop, it??™s a good idea to have it go into sleep
CHAPTER 14: Making Sense of the System Preferences 305

depending on whether you??™re running your laptop with a power adapter or from the battery.
If you don??™t see the Sleep and Options tabs, as illustrated in Figures 14-2 and 14-3, click the
Show Details button on the left side of the pane. Click the Schedule button to set a schecule for
your Mac to wake and sleep at specific times.
Keyboard & Mouse
Control your input options with this preferences pane, which has five tabs: Keyboard, Trackpad
(for laptops only), Mouse, Bluetooth, and Keyboard Shortcuts.
