Startup Disk
If your Mac has multiple Mac OS X installations on it, you can select which installation to boot
your Mac with by using this preferences pane.
CHAPTER 14: Making Sense of the System Preferences 323
Time Machine
Time Machine is one of Mac OS X??™s newest and most talked about features. Chapter 24 discusses
in depth how to use Time Machine, so for now we will just take a quick look at its preferences
pane, which is where you turn on Time Machine. You click the Choose Backup Disk button to
tell Time Machine which volume, or disk, to back your data up to, which files on your Mac not to
back up, whether to skip system files, and whether to back up automatically.
Universal Access
Universal Access makes your Mac much more user-friendly for those who have difficulty in
seeing, hearing, or otherwise controlling their computer. The Universal Access preferences pane
has four tabs: Seeing, Hearing, Keyboard, and Mouse & Trackpad.
Seeing
These options are designed to benefit Mac users who may have a hard time seeing what is
displayed on their screen.
