CHAPTER 15: Making Your Mac Play Pretty with Other Computers 335
Easily Check AirPort??™s Status
There must be an easier way to check the status of an AirPort connection than to open
System Preferences and then open the Network preferences pane every time, right? Right!
But to do so, you need to open that very preferences pane first. Select AirPort in the
connection pane on the left to see its settings in the main settings window on the right, and
then check the box labeled ???Show AirPort status in menu bar.???
Look in the menu bar and you see a neat little icon that looks
like radio waves ascending; that??™s the AirPort status icon, which
indicates that AirPort is connected and is working like a champ.
The higher the black waves go, the stronger your signal is.
When AirPort is turned off, there are no waves in the icon.
