If no network is selected, the icon displays gray waves with a black arrow point up,
like this:
Gray waves with no arrow means that AirPort is turned on but has lost its connection.
336 How to Do Everything: Mac
AirPort Utility scans your network for AirPort Base Stations and displays its findings in the
pane on the left. Select a base station from the list to see its information.
To make automatic changes to that base station??™s configuration, click Continue and follow
the onscreen instructions. But if you??™re like I am??”afraid that the world is ripe for takeover by
evil robot overlords??”you may prefer to do some things for yourself instead of letting automation
rule the day. If you suffer from that particular neurosis, or one similar to it, click the Manual
Setup button to see the banquet of settings available for your choosing in the AirPort Utility
pane, which has five tabs:
?–  AirPort This tab, shown next, is where you can make changes to the way the base
station works, as well as download any update you may have skipped earlier.
