Become Pals with the Network Preferences
Chapter 14 gave you a very brief introduction to the Network preferences, and you got a sample of
them earlier in this chapter in the ???Connect Wirelessly with Your Mac??? section, but you??™re about
to get to know them well. This section introduces the basic layout of the Network preferences
pane and then presents the advanced network settings.
Meet the Basic Network Preferences Pane
Open the Network preferences pane by choosing Apple | System Preferences | Network. Figure 15-1
shows the layout of the Network preferences pane, several elements of which are described next:
?– Location selector Create settings that pertain to how your Mac connects to the Internet
in different locations. For instance, create a location for Home and another for Work, and
set the options necessary for your Mac to gain Internet access from each location.
