Meet the Advanced Network Settings
Typically, the settings that were automatically assigned to your network connection are sufficient, but
occasionally that may not be the case. Check with your network administrator, ISP, or your router??™s
documentation to see if there are any special requirements needed to access parts of your network.
Built-In Ethernet and AirPort use mostly the same settings options, so I??™ll briefly go over
those common options first before introducing the settings that are specific to Built-In Ethernet
or specific to AirPort.

Settings Common to Both Built-In Ethernet and AirPort
Click the Advanced button in the main settings window (see Figure 15-1) of either the Built-In
Ethernet connection or the AirPort connection to see these preferences:
?–  TCP/IP On this tab, choose whether your Mac is automatically assigned an IP address
by a network??™s servers or a router (Using DHCP), or you or your network admin should
enter the address information (Manually).
