have older Macs running Mac OS 9 or earlier, or if you have older printers that don??™t use
Bonjour, check the AppleTalk Active box so that you can communicate with them.

?–  802.1X 802.1X is a form of access control implemented on some networks. Ask
your network admin if your network requires 802.1X authentication; if so, they should
probably enter these settings for you.
?–  Proxies Many corporate networks use proxy servers to control access to certain
network functions, such as the Internet and using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). These
servers may require authentication before allowing access to a particular function. Your
IT department or ISP will provide you with these proxies if needed. If you have a home
network, you can safely leave these settings alone.

Built-In Ethernet
The Ethernet tab is unique to the Built-In Ethernet advanced settings.
This is another case where the automatic settings should suffice, but occasionally they may
need to be altered, depending on your network configuration.
