"How to Do Everything: Mac"

I highly advise against checking the ???User names and passwords??? box. You probably
don??™t want just anyone to walk up to your Mac and be able to access your bank
accounts, private email accounts, and the like. Checking this box causes Safari to
remember usernames and passwords for every secured site you visit.
?–  Security Tell Safari whether it
should enable plug-ins and Javarelated
content, block those annoying
pop-up windows, or accept cookies
from websites. Plug-ins are used by
Safari to display multimedia content,
such as pictures and video. Java is
used by many interactive websites
(sites that require user input) and for
animations. JavaScript is present in
most websites, and is used often for
buttons and interactive forms.
Accepting cookies from a website doesn??™t mean that the administrator of that site is
going to have his mother bake you a batch of chocolate chip cookies for visiting his
webpage. Cookies are simply small text files that some sites use to track your browsing
behavior or authenticate users. Choosing whether to accept cookies or not is entirely
up to you.
