"How to Do Everything: Mac"

It marks that email as junk and, by
default, leaves it in your Inbox.
Use the Junk Main pane to turn junk mail filtering on or off, decide what Mail should do
with the mail it has marked as junk, make sure that Mail knows some types of messages should
never be marked as junk, choose whether to trust your ISP??™s junk filters, and decide whether to
separate the junk mail from the rest before or after rules have been applied (more on rules later in
this chapter).
378 How to Do Everything: Mac
Create a Custom Junk Mail Filter
Junk mail is usually just harmless advertisements that, at the most, pose a serious threat to
annoy you to death with their frequency. On occasion, however, you may run across a virus
(yes, even on a Mac, even though the likelihood is extremely low) or the junk mail may be
much more racy than you want Junior to be gawking at. While most of us are lucky enough
to just be annoyed, don??™t let that get your guard down! The moment you??™re not careful is the
moment you should be.
Sometimes it??™s necessary to get really specific about which email is junk in order to
weed out particular items that may sneak past Mail??™s already-extensive filters.
