"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Checking the last option, Message Threading, causes Mail to highlight all other emails that
relate to the one you are viewing. This is a really handy utility when you??™re trying to find all the
emails that pertain to a particular subject or conversation.
Composing
The Composing preferences pane has lots of options to configure, so we??™ll take the three sections
of the pane one at a time.
CHAPTER 17: Mail Call! 381
Composing
Decide which format to use when creating new email: rich or plain text. Rich text gives you the
font selections and color changes that are needed to design an attractive message, while plain text
is precisely what it says it is: plain old text. You cannot use the advanced graphics features of
Mail, such as Stationery, if you choose to send email in plain text format.
This section also enables you to choose how to handle spell checking and whether to send a
copy to yourself of the emails you send to others.
Why would you ever want to use plain text? Well, while most email applications are
able to send and receive email with rich text and graphics, some of the people you send
emails to may still use email applications that only allow plain text.
