"How to Do Everything: Mac"

To create a new mailbox, choose Mailbox | New Mailbox. Assign a name that is descriptive
of the mailbox??™s eventual contents, choose a location for the mailbox (whether on your Mac or
on the mail server of an IMAP account), and then click OK.
For this example, I created a mailbox called Family, where I will organize email that I
receive from family members. This will help organize emails from my family, but only to a small
degree because I??™ve got a big family and we like to send lots of emails. In order to facilitate
better organization, I will create subfolders, or ???submailboxes??? as it were, for each segment of
my family. To create a subfolder, choose Mail | New Mailbox, type the name of the parent folder
(or mailbox) followed by a slash (/) and the name of the subfolder, and then click OK.
I created subfolders for Mom and Dad, Kelli and Keith, and Uncle Gary, as you can see in
the following image.
CHAPTER 17: Mail Call! 387
Smart Mailboxes are brilliant little buggers. They give a central location where you can view
emails that meet criteria you??™ve defined, without actually moving those emails from the original
mailboxes in which they are stored.
