422 How to Do Everything: Mac
Rule Numero Uno: Restart
Quite simply, the single best thing to resolve most of your Mac-related headaches is a quick and
easy restart. Restarting allows your Mac to collect its breath and shake any cobwebs it may have
in its busy little noggin. If you find yourself spending more time waiting for your Mac to restart
than you do productively using it, it??™s time to try something else.
Log Into a Different Account
A very basic approach to Mac troubleshooting is to log into another user account and see if the
trouble occurs there as well. If it does, the issue is system software or a hardware problem. If it
does not happen, then there is something wrong with your user account. In that one simple step
you??™ve eliminated quite a few possibilities.
If you only have one user account on your Mac, I strongly advise you to consider adding
another account strictly for troubleshooting purposes. Should a problem arise, the first thing you
should do is log into that account.
Back Up Your Stuff
Backing up your data is one of the most important things you can do.
