being sure that each connected device works properly before you add the next one. When
or if you discover a problem after connecting a device, there is a conflict between that

System Profiler
Apple has included one handy-dandy utility in Mac OS X called the System Profiler. The System
Profiler will tell you every delectable detail of your Mac??™s inner and outer workings. To open the
System Profiler, choose Apple | About This Mac, and then click the More Info button. System
Profiler displays your Mac??™s innermost secrets in this window:
Click the USB or FireWire link on the left side of the window to see the devices your Mac
sees on each port. If your problem device is listed there but you aren??™t able to use it, software
is most likely the problem. If the device doesn??™t show up in the list, you most likely have a
hardware problem of some sort.
Troubleshoot Typical Software Problems
Software can cause just as many problems with your Mac as hardware can, and such problems
can be just as crippling.
