"How to Do Everything: Mac"

However, there??™s nothing easy or productive about an application that consistently
closes (crashes) while in the middle of your work.
Try these techniques to heal an ailing application:
?–  Restart Yet again, the mother of all troubleshooting tools rears its head!
?–  Repair disk permissions Follow the instructions detailed in the preceding section for
repairing disk permissions.
?–  Install the latest updates Like Mac OS X, applications need updates, too. Check the
website for the manufacturer of your application for any updates that may be available
and install them.
?–  Throw away preference files Each application on your Mac creates a preference file,
which the application uses to keep track of its settings and any changes to them, such as
default page sizes, default fonts, and so forth. Sometimes those preferences may become
corrupted and need to be rebuilt. To rebuild them, close the offending application, throw
its preference file in the Trash, and then restart the application. Consult your application??™s
documentation to find where it stores preference files.
