Force Quit
Forcing an application to quit when it is misbehaving can cure a freeze. To force quit, simultaneously
press z-OPTION-ESC, which opens the Force Quit Applications window.
Select the name of the problem application from the list and click the Force Quit button.
Try forcing the Finder to quit. The Finder is an application just like any other, and
sometimes it may need a swift kick in the seat of the pants to get it running smoothly
again.
Shut Down or Restart
On occasion, you simply have no alternative but to start from scratch. Hold down the Power
button for ten seconds and your Mac should shut down. If not, you have to get downright nasty
with it by forcing it to shut down or restart:
?–  To force a shutdown, press z-OPTION-SHIFT-POWER.
?–  To force a restart, press z-CTRL-POWER.
Confront a Blue Screen
I??™m sure some of you former Windows users saw the title of this section and screamed in terror.
Don??™t worry; this is not the Mac equivalent to the dreaded Windows ???blue screen of death!???
(Laugh maniacally at the end of this sentence for dramatic effect.
