"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Save as much of your information as
you can before attempting a reinstall, no matter which one of the following two procedures
you choose. Jump ahead to Chapter 24 to find out all about backing up your Mac.
To reinstall Mac OS X and all the software that was bundled with your Mac, insert your Mac
OS X installation disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software icon. Follow
the instructions to reinstall the operating system and bundled software, and everything else on
the drive will be retained in its current state.
If that process doesn??™t resolve your woes, you??™ve got to go for broke with a complete format
of the drive and reinstallation of software. Insert the Mac OS X installation disc and double-click
the ???Install Mac OS X and Bundled Software??? icon. Follow the instructions as before until you
get to the ???Select a destination??? window, where you click Options, and then click the ???Erase and
Install??? radio button. Once Mac OS X is reinstalled, you can begin reinstalling any third-party
applications and bring over any other files and folders you may have backed up.
