1. Read the manual! Users guides, built-in help like that in Mac OS X, and documentation
that came with your software or hardware should always be the first stop in your
troubleshooting mission.

2. Check the support website for the product in question. As previously mentioned in this
chapter, Apple??™s support site is a stellar example of just how good these kinds of resources
can be. Certainly some companies support sites leave much to be desired, but those are
becoming the exception as the Internet matures as a standard means of communications.
3. Finally, call the telephone support lines for the product. You must understand, however,
that the level of satisfaction you receive through this means of support will vary greatly
from company to company.
