"How to Do Everything: Mac"

If you are new to computing, don??™t
worry; these kinds of updates are common from all software makers. Problems, better known as
???bugs??? by geekery worldwide, are an inevitable part of computers and their software. Thankfully
Apple is a very proactive and reactive company and works to rectify these problems as soon as it
can. Truthfully speaking, most updates you see are preventative measures for most users, because
usually only a relatively small handful of people have experienced the issues fixed by the update.
Run Software Update Manually
Mac OS X uses a utility program, fittingly called
Software Update, to help you keep your software
versions up to par. Open Software Update
by choosing Apple | Software Update, and it
automatically begins querying Apple??™s servers for
information about new software.
CHAPTER 22: Keeping the Engine Tuned 455
Apple??™s servers respond to Software Update with a list of updated software, which Software
Update compares to the versions you already have installed. If there are newer versions available,
you see a list of the new software and should click the Install button in the bottom-right corner to
continue the update process.
