"How to Do Everything: Mac"

Some developers, especially those of popular commercial applications such as Microsoft
Office and Adobe Photoshop, have utilities built into their programs that work much like
Software Update. These utilities check the servers of the developer to see if any new versions
of the software have been released. If so, you can usually decide to download the updates
and install them either now or at a later time. These utilities are certainly the easiest and most
consumer-friendly way to keep programs up to speed.
However, some developers haven??™t seen it necessary to incorporate these kinds of utilities
into their applications, so you may have to peruse their websites for updates from time to time.
Often a developer will send an email to customers who have registered their software that keeps
them informed on the product??™s comings and goings, which is essentially the same as using
a utility to check the developer??™s servers but without the added convenience of automatically
downloading and installing any available updates.
What Is an ???Important??? Update?
Aren??™t all updates important? Yes, but some updates are more important than others.
